Lot Description
What an amazing coin to start off this wonderful GEM set of $10 Indians. We very much consider this coin HIGH END. Exquisite surfaces are virtually perfect! Even if you use a strong glass the worst you can find is a tiny scuff/frost break at the lower left obverse. We can't stress enough how clean and smooth the surfaces are. A strong luster beams from all over. Both sides are a gorgeous and totally original yellow gold color. There are NO spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and are fully struck. The eye appeal is like the coin, sensational! The Wire Edge is a one year type coin, a prototype for what was to become the Indian Head eagle. Like the double eagle that Augustus St. Gaudens designed, the original design called for a high relief. While technically a pattern, enough were struck (500) that they are considered an integral piece in a complete set of $10 Indians. PCGS 16, NGC 20, CAC 6. This coin last sold in September 2014 where it realized $129,250. Keep in mind, we really do rank this coin as MS66+, just PCGS has not agreed so far. We sold a PCGS MS67 CAC (the only MS67 beaned) for just over $400,000 this year! If you seek a superb Wire Rim and are ultra-picky, this is the coin you want! Good luck as we expect strong bidding here! Cert. Number 31659640 PCGS # 8850
